5 Key Players for the Summer Showdown

Hello everyone! Please check out the video for my full thoughts on the subject. I love making this content, so feel free to comment and contribute to the discussion!

This Summer Showdown is going to be exciting. Lots of fans and analysts alike expect a handful of upsets. So, with that being said, let's determine some key players who either will enable these upsets or hope to hold them off!

5) Note

I wrote another piece describing how crucial Note's play was this past week as they rebounded against the Defiant. His Sigma could be even more important against the Eternal with Sp9rk1e on the Genji. If Note can at least someone handle his insane Genji play with some solid Accretions, it could be massive for their chances. The Fuel are not as good as the Eternal, but in a single series, the upset potential is there. Note, and his partner Gamsu, will be relied upon heavily for a solid showing.

4) Alarm

After a terrible showing from Philadelphia against San Francisco, Fusion's playmakers need to step up. He isn't a terrible Brigitte, but what I am more interested in is why the Brigitte? We know he is a stellar Baptiste. Do Philly think he is better at dealing with the current meta on Brigitte than any other player on their roster that they would sacrifice his Baptiste play? All in all, I want to see him back on Baptiste if possible. We know he can play well either way, but his stabilizing play could be important for Fusion as they look to rebound from a 0-3 performance.

3) Shax

After absolutely dominating two weeks ago, Shax looked poor this past series. Not necessarily because of his individual capability, but because of the meta. When the Valiant can't rely upon that Tracer pick, we need to see Shax adjust more. Maybe that means a Torbjorn pick, but the Tracer

couldn't get much done at all against a Paris Eternal roster that looked solid in the current meta. His is definitely capable individually, and maybe they will work out a strategy with Tracer, but if not the Valiant might be in trouble. They face a beatable Defiant, but Agilities played Genji a lot and might give the Valiant the same problems Sp9rk1e did.

2) Michelle

I think we can all be happy to see Michelle back in the lineup for Seoul. Both off-tanks for the Dynasty are solid players, but Michelle's presence really seemed to make a difference this past week. The Dynasty are always a team that seem so close to pulling out series or at least making it close. This roster should be competitive, but something needs to change. Maybe Michelle's roster is that change, and against an impressive but beatable London, this might be his big chance to prove he deserves that starting spot again.

1) Carpe

Yes, that Carpe. Similar to what happened to Shax, Carpe was absolutely shut down. Unlike Shax, Carpe was shut down against the best team in the world, so it is difficult to say he will perform poorly again. However, Carpe isn't just trying to secure a single upset in the tournament for an underdog team. The Fusion are looking to take it all, and Carpe will need to show up throughout the entire tournament, not just a single match, if they are going to win it all. We all know he is capable of it and I would keep a close eye on him as they get their first round bye. If the Fusion can pick a roster like the Gladiators, Justice, or Fuel from Round 1, the individual mechanics should overcome any opponent. If they have to play a team like the Eternal that have showed rock-solid Widow gameplay like the Shock did, or the crazy Genji play from Sp9rk1e and Dallas's Doha could give them problems.

As always, thanks for reading! Enjoy the games this weekend and expect lots of breakdowns next week!
