Okay... Well, that was scary. Any fans of the charge are probably still sweating from watching their team this weekend. Close matches against the Dynasty and the Spark were entertaining, but I'm sure the team has no doubts about how lucky they were to squeak out with a win.
Both games went to Game 5, with the Charge getting off to an early 2-0 lead against Seoul. After Seoul almost pulled off the reverse sweep, the team looked to take a more decisive series against the Spark. The Spark just upset the New York Excelsior, however, and we were in for an entertaining match. Let's break it down some.
Like I said, the Spark had just upset a frustrating NYXL, and I have to throw in some personal bias here. I hope this is the turnaround for the Spark. I had them in my Top 6 at the beginning of the season, and even if they aren't that good, they are still one of my favorite teams. Architect looked decent in this series against the Charge, but it wasn't enough. The first two maps looked good, and, honestly, I almost stopped watching as I had some articles to write for another position. But... I couldn't turn it off, and I'm glad I didn't.
Coming into map 3, I honestly thought Charge might take a map. The Charge showed signs of stopping the Spark cold in their tracks, especially when Happy took charge of Point B on Junkertown. And that's where I'm going to go from here- Happy. I really thought he turned up today. His impact on Widow and Hanzo was crucial to his team's win today. The characters are so high impact when the player is doing well, and Happy was. His ability to flip a fight on it's head or even stop a fight before it began with a crucial pick was a joy to watch. He pulled out several clutch multikills, including a strong double kill to finish off a map on Ashe with BOB and a big headshot on to the enemy tracer.
The Spark are 9th now, but still have time to prove their season's hopes weren't a shot in the dark. They are right in the middle of the pack though, and a few bad matches could send them spiraling. For the Charge, they are in 5th plate despite an almost dead-even map differential. These two scary matches against Seoul and Hangzhou reflected that well, and the Charge will continue to rely on Happy as they try to take some more decisive wins as they push into the Top 5. Thank you all so much for reading, please tell me what you thought about the match, and I'll see you next time!
