Heads Up! #1 3 Big Matches Before the Summer Showdown

Hey everyone! I am sure you are all as excited for this weekend as I am. There are a lot of big games to discuss, and hot takes to make. Let's dive into my three biggest matches that you need to watch this weekend.

  1. Shanghai Dragons vs Hangzhou Spark

Playmakers vs Playmakers. The Dragons struggled against the Hunters, but that was mostly due to subbing in some players and using lineups they usually wouldn't in a massive game. Nonetheless, it was a struggle, and if the Spark could face the Dragons at any time, it would be now. The Dragons are still the best team in the conference, but this will be a real test to show if the Dragons can hold off the group of teams right behind them including the Charge, NYXL, and Spark.

As for the Spark, they have always been one of my favorite teams, and now I can finally express belief in this team not founded on fan's hope, but on analyst's opinion. I truly think that the three new players on this team, Architect, QOQ, and M1ka are going to be massive difference makers for this franchise. Godsb and Architect pounded Jjonak and the XL last week whenever they tried to play Zen or Ana it felt. It was a close series, but QOQ was exactly what you want next to Guxue. If QOQ continues to play like this, it won't be long before I begin to consider them one of the best duos in the league depending on the meta. So, it will be top dogs vs the rising threat. Both teams have something to prove after close matches last week.

2. NYXL vs Guangzhou Charge

Both these teams were involved in Game 5's last week, just like the Dragons and Spark, and I can see this one going the difference too. The NYXL, despite taking it to game 5 against the Spark, struggled to deal with the DPS line. New York has the roster depth to figure out the right combo, and I think they will be able to deal with Happy and the crew more easily than they did last week.

For the Charge, the key will be to assert some dominance and not let the game go close if possible. The Charge have been regarded as the second best team in the conference by many analysts, but their Map W/L record is too close for comfort. They have been squeaking out wins and a team like the NYXL can easily upset them as both these teams try to say, "Hey, the Dragons are good, but you need to talk about us as the potential best in the league."

3. Philadelphia Fusion vs SF Shock

Season 2 Champions vs Season 1 Finalists. Boy, oh boy, I love Esports. There is something fascinating to me about this matchup. The Fusion have always been good. Great, even, but never get recognized as one of the best in the league. I think that's fair though. They have great players but haven't proven this season they are a championship winning team. No, no, I don't mean they are a bad team. Just that their playstyle revolves more around individual playmaking than any team coordination. I think they can win it, but it would be an upset.

As for the Shock, their disciplined style will be key to taking down the Fusion. The individual talent on the Shock can match Philly player for player, so if the Shock can tactically outclass them, it should be a win. Keep your heads up for some massive individual plays in this series, and definitely, definitely, keep an eye on the support lines.
