Yaki's Underrated Performance vs LA Valiant

Another weekend, another round of games to cover! Let's dive in to one of the few to not go to Game 5 first. Although the Game 5's were all exciting, this one was honestly just as thrilling. First off, for a another way of listening to this article, check out my YouTube channel where I discuss it unscripted for a few minutes.

So, let's get started. This matchup was insane. The DPS duos were at each other's throats, and momentum flipped like a patty on a grill. One attack, the Mayhem would look dominant, then on Hanamura, give up a 5 minute time bank and struggle on their own attack. Just for entertainment's sake, watch the highlights for this match if you haven't had the time yet.

After finishing second in the May Melee, we all have higher expectations for the Mayhem, but they failed to live up to them today. Gangnamjin and Gargoyle had their moments, but I think it came down to BQB and Yaki falling a bit short. Now, wait a second, isn't Yaki my underrated player of the week? Yes! But, as the commentators said, the Mayhem had to work a little extra this week to fill in a void for Yaki. I think that take is a bit harsh, but on the right track. We are used to seeing the DPS duo carry the Mayhem now, but Yaki wasn't quite that superstar this match. He still played extremely well though.

Shax was the best player on the server, and KSP had a decent performance as well. BQB seemed to be missing now and then, but I think Yaki had a great performance that only felt like a failure because of his usual ability to play at his best for the entire match. Any given week, any team in the league would be happy to take a performance like the one Yaki had. He had several dominating moments, including key triple keys that took advantage of the Valiant and he was really the only reason the Mayhem were in this series. Frequent backline invasions and burning through McGravy several times really left an impact.

In conclusion, keep this match in mind as we move forward with the Summer Showdown. If this is the worst performance we see from Yaki, the Mayhem are in for another great tournament. Credit to the Valiant for upsetting the runners-up, but I think it is too early to bail on the Mayhem, especially Yaki. As long as Tracer remains in the meta, and BQB returns to form, we will be fearing the Mayhem again in no time.
